Memorial & Cemetery Guillaume Defauwes

A separate monument was erected to Private Guillaume Defauwes on the site of the Blegny coal mine.

DEFAUWES Guillaume, age 33 , Guardsman in the garrison of Fort Barchon, killed at his observation post during the fighting with the Germans on May 11th, 1940 at this spot.

He was reburied in the Vottem cemetery (near the city of Liège) on May 31th, 1940. See photograph 3 and 4.

He is also remembered at Fort Barchon on the monument to the fort's fallen soldiers. 2nd panel from the right.
