Memorial Raff Augsburg

In the city center of Augsburg there is an "Erinnerungsband" (commemorative ribbon) on one of the houses where Dr.Julius and Paula RAFF lived.

Born 9-3-1868 in Göppingen / Baden-Württemberg
Died 12-11-1942 in Theresienstadt.
Paula RAFF
Born Baruch on 18-1-1880 in Hechingen / Baden-Württemberg
Deported with her husband to Theresienstadt on 5-8-1942.
Murdered in Auschwitz in 1944.

Julius Raff studied medicine, specializing in skin and venereal diseases.
During the First World War he worked as a civilian doctor in the Augburg reserve hospital.
From 1933 onwards the tide began to turn and the boycott of the Jews began.
SA and SS men prevented customers from entering Jewish shops, law firms and doctor's offices. Jews were increasingly excluded from social life and sports.
In 1938, all licenses of Jewish doctors were revoked.
Together with his wife he moved into the home of the Israelite Community.
In November 1938, after the pogrom, the building was seized by the National Socialists. Until their deportation, they stayed in various Jewish houses in Augsburg.
The couple had a son and two daughters, they were able to escape to the US in time.
