Memorial Arnold Augsburg

On September 7, 2018, an "Erinnerungsband" (memorial pole) was placed in the city center of Augsburg at the house where Arthur and Grete ARNOLD lived.

"Hochfeldstrasse 2
Lived here
Arthur ARNOLD
Born on 9-8-1880 in Augsburg
Kidnapped to KZ Dachau on 25-9-1941
murdered there on 23-11-1941.
Grete ARNOLD
Born Landau
Born on 17-2-1889 in Augsburg
Driven to suicide
died on 6-7-1941"

Arthur was co-owner of the family business, textile company Kahn & Arnold.
In 1908, the company was already in eighth place among the largest textile factories in Augsburg in terms of number of employees.
After the First World War it played a key role in saving the "Neue Augsburger Kattunfabrik (NAK)". The company, with a spinning mill and weaving mill, produced and traded in cotton fabrics and had a branch in Berlin.
The tide turned in 1938 when there was a boycott for the Jews. The Kahn and Arnold families were forced to sell their NAK shares as part of the 'Aryanization', the expropriation of the Jews.

Arthur Arnold was arrested twice. In November 1941 he became a fatal victim of medical experiments at Dachau.
In July 1941, Grete took her own life.
