Halk Hakydasy (People's Memory Complex) Memorial

The Halk hakydasy Memorial Complex opened in 2014 is located on a hill overlooking the capital Ashgabat .

Three monuments, huge reliefs and an eternal flame commemorate the victims of three important events for Turkmenistan. The battle of Geok Tepe between 1879 and 1881 in which, as part of the Russian conquest of Central Asia, the Turks were defeated and became part of the Russian Empire. World War II when the country became part of the Soviet Union and the Turkmen fought in the Red Army and finally the 1948 earthquake that claimed around 110,000 lives.

The huge 650,000 m2 complex further comprises a large park and there is also a museum that recalls the history of both wars and the earthquake.
