The war memorial at the foot of the castle hill was designed by graphic artist Pfitzer and inaugurated in 1947.
The marble slabs on both sides of the monument contain the names of the fallen soldiers of the First and Second World Wars.
A text by the Austrian poet Anton Wildgans was engraved in the middle.
„Das ist der Sinn von diesem grossen Sterben
ihr die ihr noch lebet merket wohl
die schwere Zeit will grosse Erben
ihr Todesmut will euern Lebensmut"
(That is the meaning of this great death
You who are still alive see that well
difficult times want great heirs.
their courage to die requires your courage to live)
