This monument was inaugurated on 19 September 2021 in memory of three brothers TAYMANS, who died in the First World War.
Emile TAYMANS, notary and lawyer in Tubize and Marie-Thérèse EVERARTS had four sons, Jean, Pierre, Charles and Paul. All four of them voluntarily enlisted in the Belgian army, but three of them died on the battlefield.
TAYMANS Jean, 34 years, adjutant 19th Line Regiment, was killed on 28 November 1917 in the attack on the Epernon bunker in Merkem
TAYMANS Pierre, 34 years, guardsman 5th Lancers Regiment, wounded in Woesten on 22 June 1918 and died of his wounds in the Belgian Field Hospital in Hoogstade, on 14 October 1918.
TAYMANS Charles, 22 years, second lieutenant 10th Line Regiment, killed in Torhout on 15 August 1918.
On request of the family the brothers were not buried in German-occupied territory at the time, but were transferred to the Oostvleteren cemetery.
Shortly after the war, the municipality of Tubize named a street after them, where the monument now stands.
