War Memorials School Rametivoz

On the old municipal school of Rametivoz at Flémalle-Grande there are two commemorative plaques for the fallen of the First and second World War.

The left panel commemorates those who died in the 1st World War.

BERTHO Eugène, age 34, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, died as a result of illness (probably Spanish flu) on October 19th, 1918 after being admitted on October 17th to the Belgian military hospital in Calais (F). He is buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz.

BERTRANT Pierre, age 25, soldier in the 3rd Regiment Carabiniers, killed at (Poelkapelle) Paschendaele on Sept. 28th, 1918. He is buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz. (Photo 3).

BINET Louis, age 22, corporal with the 14th linieregiment, died as a result of shrapnel in the lower body on September 28th, 1914 at Willebroek (Antwerp). He is buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz.

BRASSEUR Charles, age 16 !, war volunteer, soldier with the 6th linieregiment, killed in action on December 18th, 1914, he is still missing or rests in an unknown grave.

CLOSE Maurice, age 31, soldier in the 14th line regiment, died as a result of illness (probably Spanish flu) on November 19th, 1918, 3 days after his 31st birthday in the Belgian military hospital at Calais (F). ). He is buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz.

DECHAMPS Gaston, age 25, sergeant in the ambulance service, killed September 20th, 1918 at Ramskapelle (Nieuwpoort) as a result of shrapnel. He was buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz.

DOYEN Joseph Julien, age 22, soldier in the 14th line regiment, died on September 17th, 1915 in the hospital of Dinard (F) as a result of illness. He is buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz

LAMBOTTE Hubert, age 25, soldier with the 1st regiment Hunters on foot, killed in action at Boncelles on August 6th, 1914 (the 2nd day of the war for Belgium), he is still missing or rests in an unknown grave.

LEBLANC Marcel, age 28, war volunteer, corporal in the 2nd Regiment of Engineers, died on November 3rd, 1917 in the hospital of Vinckem (West Flanders) from the effects of shrapnel. He was buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz

LEVERT Fernand, age 32, soldier with the 14th line regiment, died in the sanatorium at Eastleigh, Hampshire (GB) of tuberculosis. He is buried in the military cemetery 'Old cemetery' at Southampton (GB).

De Noël Joseph, age 22, soldier with the 14th line regiment, killed on June 11th, 1916 by a bullet in the head at Kaaskerke (West Flanders). Although a memorial plaque in Rametivoz cemetery indicates that he died at Dunkirk on June 16th, 1916, the official record at the Defense Department indicates that he died at Kaaskerke. He is buried in the Rametivoz cemetery. (Photo 4).

REYNDERS Lucien, age 23, soldier wiht the 5th linieregiment, killed in action at Adinkerke (West Flanders) on November 1st, 1914. He is buried on the cemetery of Rametivoz.

THIRY Achille, age 29, soldier with the 3rd Regiment Caribiniers, killed on September 28th, 1918 at Langemark (West Flanders), He is buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz. (Photo 5).

TIMMERS Vital, age 40, soldier, died in the hospital (H.M.B.) of Antwerp as a result of diseases contracted at the front, on August 22nd, 1919, He is buried on the Belgian Military Cemetery 'Schoonselhof' at Antwerp.

Died in captivity

BAUDUINET Henri, age 23, soldier with the 14th Line Regiment, died of heart disease in captivity on May 8th, 1915 in the hospital of Kasselbrück (D). He is buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz.

Fate unknown

RENARD Marcel, age unknown, soldier with the 6th line regiment, died on November 22nd, 1916 at Uccle (Anderlecht). No further details known.

EVRARD Joseph, no further details found.


Commemorated World War II

FONTAINE Clovis, age 39, resistance member, executed by the Germans on Jan. 26th, 1944, at the Citadel of Liège. He is buried in the cemetery of Flémalle-Haute.

CRAINDORGE Albert, age 22, member of the resistance, executed by the Germans on January 26th, 1944 at the Citadel of Liège. He is buried in Rametivoz cemetery. He is the brother of Alfred Craindorge.

CRAINDORGE Alfred, age 20, resistance member, died of wounds received during actions for the fatherland on May 15th, 1945. He is the brother of Albert Craindorge.

NIVELLES Roger, age 21, member of the resistance, died in captivity at Neerfeld (D) on December 18th, 1944, reburied in Rametivoz after the war.

PERIN Henri, age unknown, member of the resistance, died in camp Dora (D).

PUTZEIS Jean, age 20, member of the resistance, died at Camp Neuengamme (D) on March 7, 1945, 5 days after his 20th birthday !

CÔNARD Leopold, no further details known.

DELCOURT Joseph, no further details known.

EDIAR Lucille, wife of Jean Putzeis, after being admitted to camp Ravensbrück (D) nothing more was heard of her.

DELREE Joseph, no further details known.

DEMANY Emile, no further details known.

DESSERANO Henri, no further details known.

MAMBOUR Leopold, no further details known.

SCHRYNEMAEKERS Paul, no further details known, he is remembered at Rametivoz cemetery.

SCHILBACH Eduard, no further details known.

LECLERCQ Jules, age 25, died in captivity on March 5th, 1943, no further details known.

THIELEN Lucien, age 25, second-lieutenant with the 12th Line Regiment, killed in action at Kuurne on May 24th, 1940, he is buried in the cemetery of Rametivoz.

They are also commemorated on the monument at the cemetery of Rametivoz.
