The Schongau war memorial stands against the city wall in the historic monastery garden of the Karmeliterhof and dates from 1957.
Under an elongated stone tablet with the text: "Lord, let the people who guide us be good, pious people." hang three bronze plates with 448 names of the dead and missing from the 1870-1871 war and the two world wars.
The middle plate at the bottom shows a man who refused military service due to religious beliefs and was therefore executed in Berlin.
At the front is a marble slab on which a bronze cross is mounted. This dates from 1997 and was donated by the Association of Soldiers and Veterans.
