Memorial Schwingshackl Innsbruck

On 27-1-2024 a Zeitpunkt was placed here for Franziska SCHWINGSHACKL

Franziska SCHWINGSHACKL-Oberwurzer, widow Mayr, born on 26-1-1878 in Assling, died 9-3-1944 in Munich-Stadelheim.

Franziska Schwingshackl was convicted in 1924 and 1930 for aborting a fetus, but in 1930 the pregnant woman did not survive.
After the Nazis came to power, she is said to have performed more than twenty abortions.
In doing so, she violated "the interests of the community and the preservation of the power of the people." Schwingshackl was therefore accused of violating the "Ordinance for the Protection of Marriage, the Family and Maternity".
The special court in Innsbruck took these principles fully into account and sentenced the suspect to death as a dangerous habitual criminal.
On March 9, 1944, she was executed in Munich-Stadelheim prison.

The city of Innsbruck has taken a new path when it comes to commemorations.
On January 27, 2024, International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust, the new project "Zeitpunkte" was presented.
A hand-made bronze disc with a diameter of approximately eight centimeters and a thickness of three centimeters is mounted at eye level on light poles or posts in the immediate vicinity of the last freely chosen place of residence of the victims of the Nazi dictatorship. The person's name is on the round plaque, the "Zeitpunkt".
The inscription is engraved and sealed.
