War Memorial flémalle-Grande

On the Rue des Hospitaliers is a small cemetery on which this monument is located. In some cases, the soldiers were buried under such a monument. It is not certain if that is the case here. The archival records on this subject have been destroyed.

The monument commemorates the fallen soldiers from Flémalle-Grande.

Commemorated are

ANTOINE Guillaume, age 25, corporal of the 12th lineregiment, died from shrapnel sustained on an outpost at Ramskapelle (West Flanders) on May 26th, 1918. (Also separate memorial stone, photo 2.)

BIOUET Camille, age 20, adjutant with the 3rd linieregiment, died as a result of wounds sustained to the head at the hospital at Hoogstade on August 16th, 1915.

BODSON Pierre, age 27, brigadere with the 1st regiment artillery, missing since October 22nd, 1914 near Pervijze or resting in an unknown grave.

CORNET Eugene, age 25, soldier with the artillery, died as a prisoner of war in the hospital at Bremen (D) on December 9th, 1918.

DEBUYST Henri, age 23, soldier with the 1st Grenadiers regiment, missing since October 25th, 1914 near Pervijze or resting in an unknown grave.

DELCOMMINETTE Maxime, age 19 !, brigadere at the garrison of fort Flémalle, died of wounds at fort Flémalle on October 16th, 1914. (Also separate memorial stone, photo 5.)

JACOB Henri, age 25, soldier with the artillery, died as a prisoner of war from the effects of Spanish flu in the hospital at Bremen (D) on December 12th, 1918. (Also separate memorial stone, photo 4.)

LAMBERT Louis, age unknown, soldier with the 2nd regiment Caribiniers, missing (or resting in an unknown grave) since October 22nd, 1914 at Stuivekeskerke (Diksmuide).

LEKEU Marcel, age 27, sergeant with the 14th line regiment, killed September 28th, 1918 at Langemark, he is still missing or resting in an unknown grave.

MATTART hubert, age 28, private with the 2nd linieregiment, killed at Diksmuide on July 9th, 1917 by a machine gun bullet in the head. (Also separate memorial stone, photo 3.)

MORELLE Florimond, age 27, private of the 4th line regiment, died as a result of wounds received on August 14th, 1914 at Halen.

PALANTE Joseph, age 20, private with the 3rd regiment Hunters on foot, died as a result of shrapnel in the lower body on June 2nd, 1915 at Adinkerke (West Flanders).

PLAQUET Albert, age 24, sub lieutenant in the 10th line regiment, killed on August 22nd, 1914 at Marche les Dames (Namur).

SPIRLET Arthur, age 26, soldier with the artillery, killed by shrapnel on November 7th, 1917 near the railroad bridge at Kaaskerke (West Flanders).

STREEL Victor, age 28, corporal with the 5th line regiment, killed on October 20th, 1914 at Lombardsijde, he is still missing or resting in an unknown grave.

THIRY Maurice, age 21, soldier with the 11th line regiment, died of meningitis at Calais (F) on December 14th, 1914.

WERNY Jean, age 36, soldier with the 8th line regiment, died at Champion (Namur) on September 21st, 1914. He is buried in the Robermont cemetery in Liège.

COLLARD Hubert, age 38, brigadier, died of the effects of Spanish flu in the military hospital at Bourbourg (F) on October 25th, 1918.
