After climbing the Wall of Geraardsbergen, one arrives at the top at the small pilgrimage chapel of Our Lady of Oudenberg.
The original chapel was rebuilt in 1906 in neo-Baroque style, according to a design by architect Vandamme.
In the chapel, the walls are full of plaques on which people over the years asked Our Lady for a favor or thanked her for a favor received.
Many plaques date from the war years. On the one hand there is a demand for protection, on the other hand there is a thank you for the return from the war of a son, husband or family member.
The Wall of Geraardsbergen is very well known to every professional cyclist or cycling tourist. The chapel on the Oudeberg therefore receives a lot of media attention every time a cycling race takes place.
