British Hospital Old Fortress Kerkira

The British hospital was built by the British in 1814. It had the capacity to care for 120 patients. During the First World War, wounded British soldiers and other wounded Allied soldiers were cared for here.

After the Italian occupation of Corfu in 1941, the hospital was used as a military headquarters. Even when the Germans occupied Corfu, they used the hospital as a military headquarters.

During the Italian and German occupation, prisoners were tortured and executed here. Into a large hole in the floor, the bone hole, the bodies of the executed prisoners were thrown.

After the Second World War, the Greek army took over the hospital and closed the "bone hole". They used the hospital, among other things, for training.
