Memorial Fritzy Leweck Consthum

In the third stage of the Lee trail, a walk from Hoscheid to Kautenbach, about halfway along a narrow forest path there is a memorial to Fritzy Leweck, who gave his life for Luxembourg in August 1944 when he was hit by German bullets.

During the occupation in May 1940, the German commander-in-chief promised to respect Luxembourg's independence. The population was cautious, but this changed when the civil government wanted to involve the population on a voluntary basis in being German.
The language regulations, among other things, made it clear that the uniqueness of Luxembourg was no longer taken into account. The population expressed open resistance.
The Scout groups were dissolved in mid-August 1940, but they continued to exist in secret. In addition, resistance groups were founded in various places that continued to publish their own Luxembourgish propaganda in secret printing houses.
Fritzy Leweck was a member of the resistance. Together with 5 other resistance fighters he was in the shelter "on Poschent" (Holzthum) for a while. They exchanged this location for the bunker "Schwéikaul" (Consthum), where four fellow sufferers were in hiding.
He was shot down in that area by a German fighter on August 12, 1944.
