Achilleion Corfu

The Achilleion is the summer residence that the Austrian Empress Elisabeth had built between 1889 and 1892 on the Greek island of Corfu. The building is currently a museum and can be visited freely.

Six years after its completion, Empress Elisabeth was killed in Geneva by an anarchist. Her daughter Gisela inherited the palace and sold it to German Emperor Wilhelm II in 1907.

During the First World War, French and Serbian troops used the Achilleion as a headquarters and military hospital.

During the Italian and then German occupation during the Second World War, these armed forces also used the Achilleion as a headquarters and military hospital.

For current visiting hours, please contact the museum.
