Monument Victims of Tiranny 1933-1945

The circular base of this monument in front of the entrance to Kolmeshöhe War Cemetery bears the following quote from German President Richard von Weizsäcker:

"Wer aber vor der Vergangenheit die Augen verschließt wird blind für die Gegenwart - Richard v. Weizsäcker - 8.5.1985 - Zum Gedenken aller Opfer der Gewaltherrschaft von 1933-1945"

"He who closes his eyes to the past becomes blind to the present - Richard v. Weizsäcker - 8 May 1985 - In memory of all the victims of the tyranny of 1933-1945".

which was spoken during his speech to the German Bundestag to mark 40 years of the end of World War II on 8 May 1985.
