On August 29, 1939, the Dutch army mobilized.
The part of the Maas Line near Maashees was assigned to the 1st battalion of the 41st Infantry Regiment led by reserve major W.E.H. Janssen.
The area in and around Maashees, including the casemates on the Maas, were manned by the men of the 2nd company under the leadership of Captain C.H.W.B. Backer. The house behind the information board was the headquarters during the mobilization months.
