The house at Rector Coppensstraat 10 was the home of Willie Engbrocks during and before the war. As a Reich German he had to serve in the German army and was assigned to the SS.
The abbot of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit advised him to remain a good man. He did this in Gemert and also when he became a guard in Amersfoort camp.
There he was ordered to guard a group of resistance fighters who were to be executed the next day. One of them, John Dons, made one that night
painting that he gave to Willie (This now hangs in camp Amersfoort). Willie is one of the few SS men to be honored in Jerusalem.
