Memorial Grace-Hologne

On Rue Ciacomo Mattéotti there is a monument in memory of the American servicemen killed here during a German air raid on Dec. 25th, 1944. The monument was erected during the 50th commemoration of this event in 1994. The attack was allegedly made by an Arado AR 234 jet-powered bomber. The first jet-powered bomber in action in the world.

The following soldiers died in this attack:

From the 862nd Engineer Aviation battalion.

FORD Owen F., Sergeant, age 33, killed in the attack. He is buried in the American Cemetery at Henri-Chapelle.

STEWART Elmert W. Corporal, age 29, killed during the attack. He is buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery.

RENO Roy Allen, T5, age 22, reburied in the United States after the war.

CARLSON Gunnar O., Private 1st Class, age 22, reburied in the United States after the war.

CRIPPEN Thomas R., private, age 22, reburied after the war in the United States.
