Memorial to the Schrameijer Family

On Saturday 7 September 1940 shortly after midnight, a German Heinkel-111 bomber was shot down by its own guns and crashed into the houses on the Henegouwselaan with the numbers 85-91 in Amstelveen. The residents of two of the four houses were able to escape, but the Schrameijer family lived in the fourth house: husband, wife and ten children. One of the children died instantly, four other children died the same day from their burns and mother Schrameijer two days later.

On Saturday afternoon 5 September 2020, Sophie and Flip Schrameijer unveiled a memorial tile in the pavement opposite the house at Henegouwselaan 89, where a German bomber landed in 1940. It was the parental home of their parents. "My grandparents," said initiator Sophie. Her grandmother and five of her ten children died.
