He was a soldier with the 21st Engineer 3rd Comp 1st Pel
The 3rd Company was responsible for blowing up the bridge at Klein Ternaaien on May 10, 1940. After blowing up the bridge, however, they became cut off from the rest of the Belgian army and came under German fire as they approached the canal. A number of soldiers died, the rest were captured by the Germans.
