Belgian War Grave Matagne-la-Petite

The municipal cemetery contains the war grave of Jean VERLAINE, sergeant in the Secret Army. He was 23 years old when he died during the fighting for the liberation of Vierves on September 3, 1944.

There is also a "Tribute" on the grave,
"Jean, you fell bravely
on the cemetery
while you fought against one
of these German hordes.
To our admiration
your enthusiasm.
We will pray to you"
