Fort of Bloscon

Located on the Pointe de Bloscon is the old Fort de Bloscon.
It was built in 1694 to protect the channel between Roscoff and the island of Ile-de-Batz from English invasions.
It was an important part of the defence of the channel. Built according to the plans of Poictevin le Jeune de la Renaudière, it included 13 artillery platforms and the central barracks which could accommodate a garrison. It protected the eastern part of the channel, the port and the western entrance to the Bay of Morlaix. It was completely renovated under the Second Empire and decommissioned at the end of the 19th century.
It was then connected to the land by the construction of large tanks for shellfish. A house was built on top of the structures.
During the Second World War, the Germans built several defenses as part of Stützpunkt "Roscoff" Mo 94.
Today, this headland with the old fort and the German defenses located on it is private property and normally not accessible to the public.
