Stumbling Stones Kaai 47

These small brass plaques (Stolpersteine or stumbling stones), commemorate:
Jacob Machiel Taijtelbaum, (born 1896, murdered 1 October 1942, Auschwitz.)
Blanche Taijtelbaum-Levie, (born 1896, murdered 11 June 1943, Sobibor.)

"Stolpersteine" is an art project in Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism).
Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the pavement in front of a residence of (mostly Jewish) victims who were murdered by the Nazis. Each plaque is provided with the name of the victim, the date and place of birth (usually a concentration camp) and the date of death. In this way, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He quotes the Talmud: "A person is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten."
