German Command Bunker 608 Amersfoort

Located in forest Birkhoven, this bunker is type 608 and was built around 1943 / 1944 as a command bunker for the ‘General-kommissar für das Sicherheitswesen in the occupied Netherlands Hanns Albin Rauter’ ‘.

The outer walls and roof are about 2 metres thick, the floor 1.20 thick, the rooms are about 2.50 metres high.

The bunker possessed its own power source for electrical supplies, for that time modern communication means a water pump a ventilation system and a gas filter installation.

During the Cold War, the bunker served as a command post for the BB (Protection of Population) and is today the domain of bats.

The bunker is not open to the public.
