Memorial Lancaster DV 228

On the night of Sunday, August 22 to Monday, August 23, 1943, Lancaster DV 228 returned from a bombing flight to Leverkusen in Germany. The aircraft was shot down near this location by a German night fighter. Six of the seven crew members died. They are buried in the cemetery opposite the monument.
