Museum War Shelter of Platanias

This underground shelter, near St Dimitros church was constructed in 1942 by the German occupation forces of Crete. It consists of an underground complex of rooms and tunnels that was used to store ammunition and military equipment.

Today, the shelter is preserved as a monument commemorating the Cretan resistance to the Nazi occupation and set up as a museum.

The museum displays numerous weapons and objects and tells the story of the 1941 Battle of Crete and the resistance to the German occupation of the island.
