The old memorial from 1920 in Blankenheimerdorf stood between the Reichsstrasse Koblenz Aachen and the Kirchweg. The structure consisted of a sarcophagus-shaped substructure made of granite slabs that were probably built around a brick core. On the gable-shaped cover plate there was a steel helmet, behind it a cross with a corpus. On the narrow sides of the sarcophagus there were dedications and on the long sides the names of the fallen of the First World War divided into two columns by a sword.
In 1956/57, as a result of the expansion of the path to the church, the memorial had to be moved. The cross was removed from the sarcophagus and moved to the upper end of the now dismantled memorial, the steel helmet was also removed and replaced by a fire bowl. Four new stone slabs were placed, two to the left and two to the right of the sarcophagus. The names of the fallen on the slabs are arranged around the depiction of floral motifs: rose, oak branch, plant with triangular leaf shape and two palm fronds.
