Information Sign bombing Nicopolis

This information board explains the bombing of the ancient city of Nicopolis and the archaeological museum dedicated to it in Preveza.

When World War II broke out, all research and excavation stopped. The area of Nicopolis was used as a military camp and was the target of heavy bombing, resulting in the almost total destruction of some monuments, such as Basilica I.

The most serious destruction occurred in 1941, when the Nicopolis Museum in Preveza was bombed by Italian planes. Much of the building and collection was destroyed and the artefacts looted.
