The castle has been used as a presidential residence since 1918.
Adolf Hitler arrived at the castle in his Mercedes at 8 p.m. on March 15, 1939, and spent the night in one of the castle rooms. The next day, Hitler met Hacha, the president of Czechoslovakia, who formally handed over power to Hitler.
The castle was used as the headquarters of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia during the German occupation years.
