War Memorial Thomatal

This memorial commemorates the residents of Thomatal killed in World War I and World War II.

The monument in the form of a chapel includes a panel carved in wood with the text:

‘Heimat herdenke, für dich geben wier unser leben’
‘Homeland remembered, for you we gave our lives’

with a crucifix underneath and 2 panels showing the years 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 with the names of the victims.

Austria was still an empire between 1914 and 1918 and fought alongside the Axis powers. After Austria's anschluss to Germany in 1938, these soldiers died serving Nazi Germany.
