San Antonio Battery

Battery of San Antonio- 1656
Built in the vicinity of the mouth of the river San Antonia its gun platform was at water level and directed its low level fire against enemy ships
It participated in the defence of the port and plaza of Santa Cruz against the English Admirals Blake (1657), Jennings (1706) and Nelson (1797). In this last attack it had 8 cannons serviced by 30 artillerymen under the command of captain Fransisco Madan
In 1846 it became the saluting battery for the Plaza
In 1886 it was declared unsuitable for defence.
