'El Tigre' canon, a 16 pounder bronze canon cast in 1768 holds a special place in Spanish history. The canon is nearly 3 meters long and weighs 2000kg . It was mounted in the Castle of San Cristobal and was used to defeat the British Fleets under Nelsons attack on Santa Cruz on 25 July 1797.
Legend has it that it was El Tigre that caused the injury to Admiral Nelson's arm causing it to be amputated. The canon was returned to the remains of San Cristobal castle museum in 2009 after being housed in the Military museum and the Castle de Paso Alto.
