Bunker MN 30 Champiomont

This is bunker MN 30.

This bunker belongs to the PFL 1, the 1st line of defense for the 'Position Fortifiée de Liège'. It is the 30th bunker of the sector "Les Margarins-Neufchâteau" MN.

The bunker is used today as an observation post for wildlifewatchers. The bunkers is no longer accessible. The original door has been replaced by a new one, and access is no longer possible.

The walls of the bunkers from the PFL line are of 1.3-meter-thick reinforced concrete. They could withstand shelling with 150mm shells and were built in the early 1930s.

When the bunkers lost their strategic value for the defense of Belgium after the war, the metal of the hatches and doors was sold as scrap metal. Also, most of the plots on which they stood were sold, so many bunkers are now on private plots.
