Williamson Cliff were a large employer in Stamford, producing building bricks. In 2003 the buildings at this site were demolished along with the WW11 memorial. Local residents led by Barbara and Don Parker, whose uncle was listed on the memorial, searched through the rubble and salvaged as much of the memorial as they could find. With the help of the New College Construction department a new memorial was built and the original pieces attached. In 2012 the monument was unveiled and dedicated in its present position in Stamford Cemetery, with representatives from military units named on the memorial, local schools, town council and most importantly, relatives of those named on the memorial.
