These small brass plaques (Stolpersteine or Stumbling Stones), commemorate:
ROSA WOLF (lived here, born 1892, arrested 19-8-1942, deported from Westerbork, murdered 30-8-1942 Auschwitz)
GODFRIED WOLF (lived here, born 1893, interned 1943 Vught, deported from Westerbork, murdered 9-7-1943 Sobibor)
ELLA WOLF (lived here, born 1895, arrested 18-5-1943, murdered 21-5-1943 Sobibor)
Relatively little is known about this family. Sisters Rosa and Ella and their brother Godfried were part of a family of five children, one of whom survived the war. They were born in Wisch (Gelderland). There is also a stone for Ella Wolf at the address Nieuwstad 30 in Zutphen. Given the short time between her arrest and the date she was murdered, the date of arrest mentioned on the stone is probably not correct.
‘Stolpersteine’ is an art project in Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism).
Stolpersteine (trip stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the pavement in front of a residence of (mostly Jewish) victims murdered by the Nazis. Each plaque bears the victim's name, year of birth and place (usually a Concentration Camp) and date of death. In this way, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He quotes the Talmud: ‘A person is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten.’
