War Memorial Fraipont

In the cemetery of Fraipont (Trooz) is a monument to the fallen of the 1st and 2nd World Wars. Unfortunately, the top of the monument has been broken off over the years by several storms and is no longer present.

Buried under the monument are the soldiers François Jaegher and Albert Dresse.

JAEGHER François, age 30, private with the 31st lineregiment, killed at Paschendaele on May 27th, 1940. He is remembered separately with a commemorative plaque with photo.

Also commemorated from the 1st World War are

ANCION Casimir, age 24, private with the 6th regiment Hunters on foot, killed on September 30th, 1918 at Ledegem (West Flanders).

DELREZ Joseph, age 31, soldier with the artillery of the A.F.L. (Artillerie Fortifiée de Liège), died in captivity Oct. 1st, 1918 at Dinklage (Germany) of probably Spanish flu in combination with pneumonia.

LECLERCQ Octave, age 28, private with the 3rd artillery regiment, died during captivity in the hospital of Langensalza (Germany) on January 18th, 1915 from typhus.

MAGIS Joseph, age 23, soldier with the artillery, A.F.L. (Artillerie Fortifiée de Liège) of the garrison of Fort Chaudfontaine , killed on Aug. 13th, 1914, in the explosion and resulting fire when a German shell hit the fort's powder magazine. During this explosion and fire, 71 Belgian soldier lost their lives. They are buried in the military cemetery in front of the fort.

SCHOUBEN Eugene, age 21, soldier with the 7th lineregiment, killed on Sept. 27th, 1914 at Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Waver (Antwerp).

DEMOULIN Georges, age 26, war volunteer, private with the 1st regiment Hunters on foot, killed on April 23rd, 1915 at Stuiveskerke (West Flanders).

DELHEZ Mathieu, age 22, war volunteer, soldier with the 8th line regiment, died as a result of shrapnel in his neck on April 27th, 1918 at Sint Juliaan (West Flanders).

From the 2nd World War

DRESSE Albert, age 35, soldier with the 55th Lineregiment, died during Allied bombing raids on March 19th, 1945 at Rengsdorf (Germany). He too would have been buried under the monument according to his son.


Civilians killed during the 1st World War

DELBROUIR Arnold, age unknown, arrested by the Germans for espionage activities, died while in captivity in 1917 in prison at Chaleroi (Belgium).

LEMENAGER Lambert, age unknown, apprehended by the Germans for unknown reasons and sentenced to 10 years hard labor on August 23rd, 1917. Died in captivity on December 25th, 1917 at Vienna (Austria).

CLEMENT Lucien, no further details known.
