Upper Alsace Memorial

Alsace-Lorraine had to be largely ceded by France to Germany after the Franco-German War of 1870. After the outbreak of World War I, France was the aggressor here and tried to recapture the then ceded departments. Alsace was the scene of bitter fighting throughout the war. After the Treaty of Versailles, the area was returned to France.

The Haute-Alsace Memorial is a museum that presents the history of Alsace, and more specifically that of Sundgau, during World War I. Discover the unique history of this part of Alsace through local events that are part of the history of the Great War, such as the tragedy of Joncherey or Kilometre Zero. The Haute-Alsace Memorial highlights this local history by presenting the daily lives of the soldiers and civilians who lived through this conflict, thus making it easier to understand.

Apart from the history told here, there is a reconstructed trench and uniforms, weapons and numerous other objects on display.

For current visiting hours, please visit the website of the museum.
