Jan Brasser went into hiding after the April-May strike of 1943 and never worked at Hoogovens again. After the liberation, Jan Brasser fulfilled his duty for two more years at the Political Investigation Department, with the aim of tracking down and investigating 'wrong elements' in Dutch society during the German occupation.
In 1947 he reported for work at Hoogovens again. Despite promises and agreements, Jan Brasser was not allowed to return. As a communist, he was not welcome. In the fifties and eighties, unions and former colleagues tried in vain to get his reputation restored. In September 2020, FNV Metaal again made a request to the management of the steel company. In January 2021 it was announced that after consultation with family, it had been decided to name the park on which the war memorial is located after Jan Brasser.
