Shortly after the Second World War, two memorial plaques for Theophiel and Amedé Cornu were placed at their former home in Puivelde as a lasting memory.
"Permanent memory of
Theophiel Cornu
Member of the Sabotage Group
Secret Army
Cowardly shot
at Albertstadt on 7-4-'45
at 52 years old"
"Permanent memory of
Amedé Cornu
Member of the Sabotage Group
Secret Army
Tortured to death
Meppen-Versen on 18-11-'44
at 24 years old"
Father and son, active in the resistance, were caught.
Amedé was deported to the concentration camp in Neuengamme. He stayed in the satellite camp in Meppen-Versen but did not survive the camp regime.
Father Theophiel ended up in Buchenwald and then in Blankenburg. When this camp was cleared, the prisoners were moved on foot. The completely exhausted Theophiel could not follow and was shot during this 'death march'.
