Memorial Squadron Leader George St.C. B. Reid

This monument in the form of a statue and the engine of his Spitfire commemorates Canadian pilot George St.Clair Boyd Reid who crashed in this area on 28-10-1944 after technical problems. The aircraft was not recovered until 1996, 52 years after it crashed, at the initiative of local citizens. To everyone's surprise, his remains were found to be still inside the remains of the aircraft. George Reid is buried in the Canadian War Cemetery in Adegem.
