Unveiled on 13 October 2024, exactly 80 years after the first bombing of the city, this monument commemorates the victims of the Allied bombing of Venlo. On the wall are the names of the victims who lost their lives in the bombings.
The first of these 13 bombings of Venlo by the Allies targeted the Maas bridges. 36 bombs fell on the area in which the monument is now realised. On that 13th October 1944, 55 people lost their lives and a total of 219 casualties would be recorded in all the bombings. 70 per cent of the city centre was destroyed and turned into a plain of rubble.
This monument brings their names back to Venlo.
