Cemetery of Honour Zehensdorf

This cemetery is a mixture of many nationalities. The Commonwealth Graves are part of it.

Most of the victims from 1914-1918 come from the local POW camps.

409 Victims Russians, Tartars, Georgians and Armenians.
206 Victims from India who lie in the CWG grave field.
263 Victims from the former French colonies.
2 Victims from Belgium.
1 Victim from Turkey.
98 Victims from Germany who fell in March 1945.

After 1945 this burial place was dishonoured and neglected.

In 1994 the Russians left this place and from 2002 the city of Zossen and the Commonwealth War Graves Commission started restoring the cemetery to its original form.

The traces of vandalism are still clearly visible on the restored monuments. Some monuments did not survive.
