Hero's walk WWI and WWII Meulebekestraat 31

The Heroes Walk in Ingelmunster tells the history of several freedom fighters through various locations with a striking story from one of the world wars.
Along the route, which is just over 4 km long, you will stop at nine facades. The memorial plaques always contain a QR code with which one can read the detailed stories of all the heroes.

There is a memorial plaque for ROBERT BULTYNCK (1896-1945) at Meulebekestraat 31.

In the brochure "Hero Walk WWI and WWII", published by the municipal council of Ingelmunster, Kurt Windels, we find the following information:

"During WWI, Robert Bultynck was commandeered by the Germans to work along the Ooigem-Roeselare canal. After the war he returned to weaving in the Schotte factory, where he came into contact with Alfons Segier, a socialist leader. Robert became a propagandist for the Socialist Syndicate and local chairman of the Socialist Party. From 1921 he sat on the municipal council. In 1933 he got a position in Ghent with the socialist syndicate for textile workers.
In March 1941, Robert Bultynck joined the armed resistance, under the direct command of Victor Schotte. He worked for the secret press and distributed pamphlets and writings. He also tried to help the people around him as best he could.
On February 24, 1944, the Gestapo raided his home. He was arrested and taken to Gross-Rosen. Like two other political prisoners, Remi Haerinck and Michael Baert, he did not survive the camp. He was shot dead on February 8, 1945, just before the Russians would liberate the camp."
