Kolff-Casemate 2 Boveneindsestraat 19

There were 52 casemates built in the Betuwe Line. Of these, 28 were built by Bureau Stellingbouw. On the line embankment itself, 17 pieces of G casemates, 1 piece of B casemate and 4 pieces of S3 casemates were built, and in a newer forward line 8 pieces of szw casemates. In addition, there were front and rear posts (consisting of 24 Kolff casemates).
These almost square structures of about 2 by 2 metres were built shortly before the war by order of the commander of the 46th Infantry Regiment, reserve lieutenant-colonel J.M. Kolff. Kolff felt that construction by Bureau Stellingbouw was not progressing and also felt that the number of declared defences in the position was too few.
In the latter part of the 1930s, he received permission to build 24 additional casemates in various designs with the regimental construction team. Some of these casemates still remain in the Betuwe position. They are all located on private land.
