Memorial Kaprijke

In 2019, 75 years of liberation were celebrated and as many people involved in the war as possible were remembered. A lot of information could be found about the victims in the municipal archives and by involving the relatives.
In recent years, enthusiastic employees of Comeet Erfgoed Meetjesland have placed 791 names in alphabetical order on a website with all the details of the people involved and linked to the existing grave with a photo.

To make this known to the public, the Kaprijke-Lembeke National Fighters' Union has designed a nameplate with a QR code and accompanying text.
The sign also contains a photo of poppies with a short text:
"Heroes who fought
or worked on heavy assignments,,,
Marked by sorrow and suffering
they gave us a better world
Rest in peace in mother earth
forever and ever."

In collaboration with the municipal council, the memorial plaque was solemnly inaugurated at the cemetery next to the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption on Sunday, September 15, 2024, a day before 80 years of liberation.
On November 1 and 11, a Belgian flag will be placed to commemorate everyone who had to do with the wars. On Armistice Day, this nameplate will also be included in the tribute.
