Memorial Peasants' War Ingelmunster
In 1794 it was decided to annex the Southern Netherlands to France. This caused unrest among the population and led to an uprising.
During the Peasants' War, the Flemish farmers took up arms against the French occupier.
The memorial stone "1798 Brigandsgemeente 1987" commemorates the bloody battle that was fought with French soldiers in Ingelmunster on October 28, 1798 during the Peasants' War.
The insurgents were called "Brigand" (road robber) by the French occupiers.
