Memorials Couhard

The Couhard pyramid, probably built in the 1st century AD, is an ancient monument located near the ancient necropolis of "Champ des Urnes". It was probably a grave monument or cenotaph in memory of a deceased person.

The site around Couhard's pyramid contains several buildings and some memorials.

"It was at this place that Guiseppe Garibaldi, commander-in-chief, led
of the Army of the Vosges, on December 1, 1870, at the decisive moment of the Battle of Autun, the counterattack of the troops of Saône-en-Loire, which stopped the enemy army."

"City of Autun
From September 8 to 10, 1944, the First French Army
under the command of General De Lattre de Tassigny
our city liberated from the German occupation"

"Couhard
Grateful to the Resisters
BONNIN Hervé
DEVILLARD Jean
DURAND Pierre
Fallen for liberation
on September 8, 1944"

"Colonel Lucien Nectoux
Airborne troops
Escaped prisoner of war
Resistor
Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor
1920-2008"

Lucien Nectoux was in the army from 1938, after which he was heavily involved in the resistance within the Alliance Network and then the Maquis Maurice. "Aspiring Raton" was his pseudonym in the resistance.
He was one of the key players in the liberation of Autun. After the war he rejoined the army and took part in all post-war battles in the Far East and Africa. He retired in 1976 after 38 years of service to France, including 15 years in the airborne troops.
His courage and services rendered to France earned him the War Cross, the Military Valor, the status of a volunteer combatant and the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of the Legion of Honor.
