German Locomotive Shed Ritsaerthoeve

The locomotive shed , which today serves as a workshop, was built by the Germans during the war and was used to repair and maintain locomotives. The partially intact lubrication pit still testifies to this use. The railroad line, which ran from Wolfheze to Bunker Diogenes Schaarsbergen and Fliegerhorst Deelen, lay along the locomotive shed with a branch line inward to above the lubrication pit.

The Ritsaerthoeve dates from 1949 and consists of the locomotive shed, around which a new house, cowshed and pigsty were built.

Today the Ritsaerthoeve is the arable farm of the Roelofsen family. The land belonging to the farm was reclaimed by the Germans during the war for the construction of Deelen Airport. The hangar also belongs to this farm.
