The most important construction projects for the political leadership during the Nazi era were barracks and bunkers, the planning and construction of which revealed war intentions even before 1939. After 1939, the bunkers were signs of the catastrophic forms of total war. Bunkers were built in all residential areas of Hamburg. They existed in the most diverse forms. One widespread form was the underground tube bunker.
At Tarpenbekstraße 68, a bunker with two tubes was built in which the residents of adjacent buildings could seek refuge in case of bomb threats. The impression was created that such tube bunkers could safely protect against bombs.
Like many other filled bunkers of this type, the bunker had fallen into oblivion. In 1995, the bunker was excavated and restored. The bunker is now listed for preservation.
