Hiding Hut Zieuwent

Between 1943 and 1945 there was a well-hidden hiding hut in the forest on the Kroosdijk. The hut was made of rough planks, cloth, branches and leaves. In the event of a threat or possible raid, several people in hiding went to this hut. They often fled from the west and went into hiding in Zieuwent because from April 1943 they were obliged to work for the Germans in connection with the German Arbeitseinsatz. The hut also sometimes temporarily accommodates English-speaking people in hiding, probably air crew members. In winter there was sometimes a large layer of water in the hut. The hut was never betrayed or found by the Germans during the war. In 2022, this hiding hut from the Second World War was restored to its former glory.
